Lavender dentata (French Lavender) Assorted Sizes
Type and Habit: Evergreen shrub
Average Height: 1-1.5m. If a lower height is required cut back more between flowering and the plant will be all the better for it. Soil: Very good drainage required. Lavender benefits from the addition of lime. Mulch well and feed annually but do not over fertilise. Aspect: Full sun Foliage: The soft, fine foliage is grey/green and aromatic. Regular trimming in between flowering benefits the plant resulting in a fresher more compact bush with more flowering. Flowers: The cylindrical flower spikes are lavender blue. The main flowering period is winter/ spring with spot flowering the rest of the year. Uses: Cottage or coastal gardens, massed in a border, excellent for pots especially terracotta coloured pots. The silvery foliage is a great contrast and looks very well with other flower colours in the white/ pink/ blue range. If you can manage to grow lavender near a traffic area it will release it's aromatic fragrance when brushed past and it is also an insect repellent. Features: French Lavender is one of the easiest lavenders to grow in Sydney and seems always to be in flower. The soft grey foliage is the perfect foil for the pretty lavender flowers. Once established French Lavender is low maintenance and water wise. You might also be interested in... |
